Fishing with the Parker Brothers Randy, Jim, and Dick 6/9/17
I arrived at Mazurik's at 5am. The remnants of a full moon lit up the parking lot, pushing away the darkness. My crew was supposed to meet me there at 5:15, but they were early too. Yay!
The sky starts getting light enough to see by 5:15 now...and, by 5:30AM it's almost light enough to not need the running lights lit up on the boat.
With a 5-10mph SSW wind, we headed north out of Mazurik's to the area between the Bass Islands, Middle Island, and Kelly's Island...to look for a starting point.
I set the Ranger down off plane, to take a picture of the sunrise...and, look for good fish marks on the Humminbird. After finding some decent marks, we started to set up. The Michigan Singer Scorpion spoon harness is rigged to add both the properties of fishing with a spoon, and a crawler harness. The harness is snelled and crimped using a 13 pound test coated wire with VMC hooks. Originally, this method was created on Saginaw Bay to troll for walleye. As water temperatures warm up, this presentation allows you to troll faster. The combination of spoon and harness has proved to be an extremely effective tactic. The reason is because you can now troll a crawler at over 2 miles per hour and still get the attention of a fish that wants to eat a crawler.
Michigan Stinger Scorpion Spoons come in several plating styles, silver hammered, smooth silver, hammered copper, smooth copper, and UV finishes. The finishes are designated as follows:
SH - Silver Hammered
S - Smooth Silver
CH - Copper Hammered
C - Smooth Copper
UV - Ultra Violet
