I didn't have to meet my crew at Catawba State Park until 6:45, so I made some brownies at 4am....by the way, the house wafting of chocolate is a pleasant way to wake up! I loaded the boat with the perch cooler and other things, and left the house at 5:20. I made a few phone calls looking for shiners, but all I was told that anyone had was Goldies, so I pulled into Hi Way bait for minnows and ice. I grabbed a breakfast sandwich from Big Bopper's and headed down to the ramp a little early....a 1/2 hour to be exact.       From Captain Juls: Fishing with Greg, Shane, and Adam 3/30/16 I hadn't been out since last Tuesday, before the blow, and I was a little apprehensive about what kind of bite it would be after the winds we just had. Wednesday the winds were out of the SW with gusts blowing 35-50mph, and Thursday, the same, but at 25-35mph. I wasn't worried about that wind direction muddying things up, since it was an offshore wind. It was the Friday/Friday night winds out of the NE that I was worried about. I figured it would bring in the colder water from the east, and muddy up the inside, by the cans where we had been doing well earlier in the week. From Captain Juls: Yesterday, March 12th, I took the new Ranger/300 G2 for it's inaugural test run, before taking any customers out. My friend, Steve, and I hit the launch at Mazurik's at 7:30am and headed out. There was sunshine at the docks, but as we headed west towards Mouse Island, the fog got thicker and thicker, until we were moving at just above an idle speed. I put the navigation lights in, to help others see my rig, so they wouldn't run into me. I was amazed how many other boats didn't do the same. We set lines just west of the ferry crossing, so we didn't have to worry about getting hit by the ferry as she moved back and forth from Catawba to South Bass Island, since we couldn't see further than 25 yards at the most. Our program started out with Perfect 10's run 20/20 and 30/30 with a 1oz snap weight, and Deep Husky Jerks 50-65 back behind Off Shore planer boards, at a speed of 1.0-1.2mph.   We picked up three fish there. Went out saturday, launched out of Bolles Harbor we only caught four but i caught the biggest walleye that I've ever caught! 30 1/2 inches weighed 11.33 lbs!!!!!!!! We were in 17 feet of water I was using ddhj 12's one was 25 back the other 45 back speed was 1.2 to 1.4 caught 4 total then the cell on the battery went dead and it was too early to leave think we could've done well!!! trying to attach the pics.

      The Michigan Singer  Scorpion spoon harness is rigged to add both the properties of fishing with a spoon, and a crawler harness.  The harness is snelled and crimped using a 13 pound test coated wire with VMC hooks.  Originally, this method was created on Saginaw Bay to troll for walleye.  As water temperatures warm up, this presentation allows you to troll faster.  The combination of spoon and harness has proved to be an extremely effective tactic.  The reason is because you can now troll a crawler at over 2 miles per hour and still get the attention of a fish that wants to eat a crawler. • The daily bag limit for walleye in Ohio waters of Lake Erie is 4 fish per angler through April 30. The minimum size limit for walleye is 15 inches.
• The daily bag limit for yellow perch is 30 fish per angler in all Ohio waters of Lake Erie.
• The trout and salmon daily bag limit is 2 fish per angler. The minimum size limit is 12 inches.
• The black bass (largemouth and smallmouth bass) daily bag limit is 5 fish per angler with a 14 inch minimum size limit.
• 2016 Ohio fishing licenses are required as of March 1, 2016
   

Walleye 


Where: Over the weekend walleye were caught by trolling west of Catawba near the Camp Perry firing range and west of South Bass Island.


How: Anglers trolling were using deep diving crankbaits or shallow diving crankbaits with snap weights to catch walleye in the top half of the water column.
