The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) held the final event of the 2005 Triton Boats/Evinrude E-TEC Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) in Lorain OH, Saturday, July 23rd. The day started off with 22 teams registering and launching from Spitzer Lakeside Marina.  Anglers were greeted with coffee and donuts provided by West Marine and Boat US.

Gary Zart and Wayne Jesionowski of Hinckley finished on top of the championship division.  They weighed in 5 fish for a total weight of 27.45 lbs.  The team fished on the west side of the sand bar and pulled harness'.  “We went through at least 30 keeper walleye to get our top 5.  We were throwing back 3 to 4 lb fish” commented Zart.  Finishing second was the team of Ted Pawlak and Nate McConoughey both of  Twinsburg with a weight of 22.1 lbs.  They also won the big fish award in the division with a fish weighing 8.85 lbs.   Derik Warnke of Aurora and Kevin Vernon of Westerville finished third with a weight of 19.3 lbs.

In the points race the team of Zart and Jesionowski used their 1st place finish to secure the Team of the Year title.   They received a check for $1000 and trophies.  First runner up, worth $600, was the team of Jeff Lash of North Lawrence and Tim Joseph of Utica.  Winning two custom made spinning rods from the Buckeye Rodmaker was the team of Keith Condon and Jeff Pawlaczyk both from Metamora for their third place finish.

The father, son and son team of Stan Zaborski of Sheffield Lake, Mike Zaborski of Sheffield Lake and Ed Zaborski of Wakeman made it three wins in a row by taking the top spot in the open division with a weight of 16.8 lbs.  The trio also took big fish honors for the division with a 4.85 lb fish.  Their winning program consisted of pulling spoons behind dipseys.
