Western Basin water temperature is 75 degrees.  Most anglers have switched from walleye to yellow perch fishing.  Fishing is excellent.  Many limit catches being reported.  Hot spots are north of the toledo water intake, the toledo channel turnaround buoy,  south/southeast and  ne of kelly's island,  off of catawba and marblehead pensisula, especially the    marble head lighthouse area, the cedar point foghorn area, the reef complex  and near green island and rattlesnake island.  Anglers are using perch spreaders with minnows in 20-25 feet of water and fish are measuring 7-9 inches.  Further East good fishing for perch has been  reported at the area between south bass and kelly's island, one mile north of Huron, one mile north of Beaver Park, 2 miles north of Vermilion.  Fish are in 30-35 feet of water and are measuring 7-10 inches.

Western Basin walleye fishing is fair.  Charter boat anglers reporting 6-12 fish/trip.  Trollers outproducing casters 3 to 1.  Best loactions include the triangle where Michigan, Ontario and Ohio waters meet, North of the Toledo Shipping channel, the flats area west and north of the reef complex, one mile off sawmill  creek and 9-11 miles offshore at the Vermilion/Lorain Sandbar.  Fish are in the 16-24 inch range.  Most fish taken with trolling.  Few taken with drifting and bottom bouncing techniques.

Western Basin: Western Basin water temperature is 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Yellow perch fishing on Lake Erie’s
Western Basin is excellent with many limit catches reported. Best locations are south and southeast of Kelleys
Island, off Catawba and Marblehead Peninsulas, Cedar Point fog horn area, the Reef Complex, between South
Bass Island and Kelleys Island, south of Green Island, and around Rattlesnake Island. Anglers are using shiners
on perch spreaders fished near bottom in 20 to 25 feet of water. Fish are measuring 7 to 9 inches. A little further
east, best locations are 1 mile north of Huron, 1 mile north of Beaver Park, and 2 miles off Vermilion. In these
three areas, anglers are fishing in 30 to 35 feet of water. Fish are 7 to 10 inches.

Western Basin walleye fishing continues to be spotty. However, some anglers have been catching nice fish in
certain areas from day to day. Trollers continue to have the best success. Best reports for walleye fishing are
coming from the Flats area west and north of the Reef Complex, Niagara Reef area, and 9-11 miles offshore of the
Vermilion/Lorain Sand Bar. Again, trolling is working the best, but some fish are being taken with bottom
bouncers with worms, and weight forward spinners and mayfly rigs with worms. Catches are in the 16- to 24-inch
range.

Smallmouth bass fishing has been good in Canadian waters in the Canadian reef complex and southeast of Pelee.
